Lewis v Clarke Tribal Sovereignty Case

It was a “standard” car accident that led to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision. A Mohegan Sun limousine belonging to the Mohegan Tribe rear-ended a vehicle and injured the occupants. Then, began an eight year legal battle in regards to tribal sovereign immunity and its limits.  Read more on the trial and results of the case here.


In the two years since the U.S. Supreme Court decision, scores of federal court cases have referenced Lewis v. Clarke, according to Harrington.
